1.Choosingatopic.Thisstepisneededregardlessofwhattypeofwritingyouintendtodo.Evenifyouarejustsendinganemailtoafriend,thereisareasonforsendingthemessage.Thisreasonisthetopicofyouremail。

2.Gatherinformation.Inthisstepyoufindandcollectalltheinformationthatyoubelieveyouwillneedtopletethewritingyouplantodo.Incertaintypesofwriting,suchasalettertoafriend,thisstepmaytakeplaceunconsciously.Inothertypesofwriting,suchasanessayforaclass,thissteprequirestimespentdoingresearch。

3.Recordnotesthatarerelevant.Inthisstepyoushouldnotworryaboutgrammaticalstructure.Thenotesyouwriteonyourpaperarejustbitsandpiecesofinformationthatarerelevanttothetopicyouhavechosentowriteabout.Likethepreviousstepofgatheringinformation,thisstephappensunconsciouslyinmostinstancesofinformalwriting。

將與主題相關(guān)的內(nèi)容作好筆記。做這一步時，可以先不用顧及語法結(jié)構(gòu)。寫在紙上的筆記只是你所選擇的關(guān)于主題的只言片語的信息。就象前面的信息收集過程一樣，這個步驟在非正式的寫作中不知不覺中就能完成。

4.Constructsentencesfromyournotes.Thissteprequiresalittleconcentrationandwork.Makesurethesentencesaregrammaticallycorrect.Thisiscritical,evenforinformalwritingsuchasemail。

5.Disregardirrelevantsentences.Makesurethesentencesyoukeeparerelevanttothetopicyouhavechosen.Checkthetutorialonrelevancyforafullexplanation。

8.Checkforerrorsandrewrite.Thisismonlyknownaseditingandrewriting.Thisisoneofthemostcrucialstepsinthewritingprocess,whichiswhyIhavelistedittwice。

10.Turninorsendyourdocument.Onceyouarecertainthepieceyouhavewrittenisfreefromerrorsandsayswhatyouwantittosay,giveittothepersonforwhomitwaswritten。
